1. All students are expected to be in school each day by 8:05 a.m. NO LATE ARRIVALS ARE PERMITTED.
2. Students are NOT permitted to leave school between tests and then return.
3. All students are to remain in school during the testing times from 8:05 am until 12:20 pm. Study halls are to be used for test preparation; students are not excused before 12:20.
4. On Friday, those who have study hall Set 8 will be excused at 9:50; Set 8 study hall will be eliminated.
All instructors will give comprehensive exams (covering all material taught through the first semester). Each instructor will inform the class about the nature of the exam and how much it will be weighted. You may, therefore, get this information from your son or daughter. Or, you may call or email the instructor if you have a question about a particular test. While these tests are important, we do not wish to raise the student's level of concern beyond that which is appropriate.
We feel that these exams are an important and valuable part of our educational program at St. Croix. The classroom review and/or the review done by individual students are of great benefit in reinforcing instruction. The results of the tests are a valuable aid in analyzing the learning that has taken place. And finally, the process of studying for and taking these tests is good preparation for college-bound students who will experience similar evaluation procedures as they continue their education.
How can you help your son or daughter get the most benefit from these tests and be as successful as possible in writing them? First of all, you can encourage him or her to prepare carefully and well in advance of the testing date. Too many other activities scheduled at this time may hinder their ability to perform well on these tests. You can also encourage your son or daughter to pace the studying instead of "cramming" for six hours the night before the test. You can try to see to it that they eat and sleep well at this time. And of course, you will remember to pray with them for the Lord's help in this as in all endeavors.
