St. Croix's Program Overview

Type of School: a private university preparatory middle and high school; grades 6-12.

Accreditation: St. Croix is recognized by the State of Minnesota Department of Education and accredited by the Minnesota Nonpublic School Accrediting Association.

Location: St. Croix High School and Middle School is located in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota; Population 2,700,000; our beautiful 30-acre campus is bordered by a lake and a park, and is within minutes of many university campuses, including the University of Minnesota.

School enrollment: 500 students (approximately 110 students per grade in 9-12; approximately 20 students per grade in 6-8); 100 International students from 12 different countries; average class size is 21 students.

Housing for Students: There are two student residences that house 100 students; both American and international students live in the residences; adult supervisors live in the residences and are on duty 24/7. St. Croix arranges homestays for students in grades 6-8 and for some high school international students.

Guardianship:
Guardianship and advisory services are available. An International Advisor supports all international students with day-to-day needs, communicates with parents, assists with necessary medical needs, and more.

Transportation: Twin Cities International Airport is 20 minutes from school; St. Paul downtown is 5 minutes away; Minneapolis downtown is 20 minutes away; the Mall of America – largest shopping mall in USA – is 20 minutes away; hospital is 5 minutes away.

Flight Information: Flights from all over the world arrive at Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport.

School year calendar: Classes begin August 27,  2012 and end May 31, 2013.

ESL Courses available: Two levels of English Second Language Courses are offered, as well as ESL U.S. History and ESL Heath.

College Prep Coursework: Courses in math, science, English, history, computer science, music, art, world languages, advanced placement and accelerated courses are taught in preparation for college entrance.

Academic/College Guidance:
Special assistance is given for course planning and college/university planning and preparation; assistance is available in making visits to university campuses. TOEFL and SAT prep courses are offered at SCLHS.

Activities and Athletics:  Students are encouraged to participate in activities outside the classroom. Interscholastic and club athletics include bowling, cross-country running, cheerleading, football, soccer, volleyball, hockey, basketball, dance team, wrestling, baseball, swimming, golf, softball, track & field, and tennis. Many students participate in drama, journalism, speech team, jazz band, select singing groups, math competitions, peer listeners, National Honor Society, Student Council, United Nations Assembly, and a variety of volunteer service opportunities. Special weekend activities and cultural outings, a mentoring program, and a study club are also available for student participation.

Academic excellence:  Ten advanced placement classes are offered with opportunity to earn college credits. Sixty-two St. Croix students took Advanced Placement (AP) exams in one year. An excellent score on the AP exams is 3, which most universities accept for college credit.  Twenty-fix SCLHS students earned a score of 4, and twenty students earned a score of 5 on their AP exams.

Average ACT Results:  St. Croix graduate score – 24; Minnesota student score – 22; USA score – 21.

Total Costs: $25,200 – includes application fee, enrollment fee, tuition, textbooks, most activities, and residence fees (including meals) for one complete school year (August - June).
