Guidance Department

St. Croix Lutheran High School students are supported by the Guidance Department as they discover their talents and gifts and plan for their future.  Guidance Director Pastor Dave Huebner works with a non-public-school guidance counselor provided to St. Croix LHS by the West St. Paul School District, ISD 197, to help students discover their aptitude and interests and to locate options of post-secondary education at colleges, universities, and occupational training schools.

Students are scheduled annually for individual sessions with the ISD guidance counselor during which they research different options for careers or continuing their education. A  computer program, "Naviance" leads the student to discover options and helps focus the search for post-secondary education opportunities. Click to link to Naviance.  Currently, seniors are meeting for these sessions; juniors and sophomores will have appointments later in the year.

Standardized tests are taken by students in 9-11th grade each Fall.  Freshmen take the "Explore" and sophomores complete the "PLAN" tests to indicate college readiness, interests and aptitude. Juniors take the PSAT/NMSQT (Pre Scholastic Aptitude Test and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) as a preview for the SAT and ACT college entrance exams and to qualify for National Merit scholarships.

Colleges and universities require an entrance exam score for consideration of applications and admission. Most Midwestern colleges require the ACT, while those schools in the US coastal states (east and west) look for an SAT score.  Information and online registration is available for either of these tests.  Most students take this exam their junior year, but some students will take the ACT or SAT more than once.

ACT           SAT

Saint Croix's High School Code is 242-673 (asked for on the registration). It is very important that this number be listed, for it directs the test scores back to Saint Croix's Guidance Department.

ACT & SAT Prep
Classes to prepare students for success on the ACT, SAT and TOEFL (test of English language fluency for international students) are offered by instructors at St. Croix. Use the links below to see details, or contact Dr. Carrie Pfeifer.
