While both girls love to be loud, Biology with Mr. Mielke is a favorite for freshmen Caroline and Jordan.
Both girls knew very little of each other before classes started in August, but immediately bonded through their “hilarious times” in class. Caroline said, “There’s this iguana in the biology room with huge, buggy eyes. It is so gross and both Jordan and I joked constantly about sitting by it.”

Along with the loud sputters of laughter and the classes where they fought the giggles, Caroline and Jordan appreciate a greater depth of what their Biology class offered. Caroline commented, “Intellectually, our teachers put a lot into what we do each day; and they ask us some questions that are really hard; like what we are doing in class and how we think it may help us in the future.” The girls’ PowerPoint presentation on ecosystems, tree classification project and cell election activity are classroom projects that they learned from in an academic sense, but it also brought two fun personalities together in a very cool way.
Jordan also noted how Caroline and she are comfortable with being different. “Caroline is in Latin and I am in German, we have choir and other interests that are separate; yet there are things outside of class that we have in common. Her mom is a congresswoman and my dad runs an airline in New York, so we both are away from our parents at times. We also support each other and encourage one another to make good choices, part of our Christian perspective.” Caroline and Jordan both admit that there are many things they hope to learn yet from each other in their years of high school at St. Croix. While both girls are not sure where they will be in 5 years, they can see meeting each other in a quiet coffee shop, similar to Mr. Mielke’s Biology class, and still having a hilariously loud time together.
