Friends Since Kindergarten

Long ago and far away in the land of milk and cookies, recess, and naptime, known as Kindergarten, two young girls began a friendship which can last an eternity. Kirsten and Haley, freshmen at St. Croix Lutheran High School, spent many hours on rug squares as they listened to their kindergarten teacher read Bible stories at St. Andrews Lutheran School. Haley’s first impression of Kirsten was that “she was really nice.”

Their friendship blossomed through time together in school and out of school. Haley says her favorite memory in grade school is “the summers spent at her grandpa’s pool.” Kirsten also remembers “all the sleepovers in grade school.” According to Kirsten, “The memories make the friendship close.”

Sometimes, teens complain that their parents do not like or approve of their friends. In Kirsten and Haley’s case, It has been a blessing that not only do their parents approve of this friendship, but they are also friends. Haley’s and Kirsten’s friendship can last an eternity because of the hope of heaven, a core component of their grade school and high school experience.

Both girls have been through some tough times and really appreciated each other’s support. The benefit of a Christian friend makes handling troubles easier. Haley and Kirsten were able to comfort each other when their parents divorced. Haley says, “When my parents got divorced, she was there for me.”

Both girls say life without the other would be “pretty boring.” Currently, the two girls predict they will still be friends in the future even if they are not as close. Within the walls of St. Croix, many friendships are developed, some within the four years of high school, while others continue from kindergarten.
