Back to School Appeal - Supporting Tuition Assistance
Dear Friend of St. Croix Lutheran High School:

A Message from Erin Schmeling, SCLHS Class of 2011

"Jeremiah 31:3 "I have loved you with an everlasting love.”
This is no ordinary love. It is one that is right here and now and one that will last for me into eternity. As a recent graduate of St. Croix Lutheran High School, I have had the chance to truly expand on what this passage means to me as a student, an athlete, and most importantly as a child of God.

I am prepared in countless ways to be the best that I can be and grow to my full potential. We have a very caring and supportive faculty at St. Croix that has enabled me to succeed and has prepared me for the challenges of courses that I will take in my future education.

Sports have always been a passion of mine. I am a very competitive person. But the thing I cherish the most is the relationships I gained with my coaches and my teammates. My relationships with my teammates are some of my strongest, ones that I pray I will have for a lifetime. My coaches have been more than just my coaches and teachers; they have been my role models.

See, at St. Croix it's more than just an education; it's more than just sports; it’s Christ's love that dwells in us each and every day; it’s the support that we receive and offer to one another; it’s a family.

My Christian education at St. Croix would not have been possible without you. Thank you for your generosity and support to me and many other students like me that every day get to grow in their Christian faith, in their knowledge and wisdom, and in their relationships, just like I did.”

For the 2011-2012 school year our chapel theme Shine Like Stars is from Philippians. The Christians in Philippi were living in a godless world that Paul described as a “crooked and depraved generation”. Yet, amid the darkness, he says they “shine like stars in the universe” (2:15). This didn’t happen because of them but rather, as Paul says, because “it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose” (2:13).

This past year St. Croix was blessed with the largest graduating class in our 54-year history of educating the total student - spiritually, intellectually, and physically - in a caring, Christian, family
community. Erin and her 118 classmates will go out into the “universe” and Shine Like Stars showing the love of our Savior.

St. Croix continues to hold out the word of truth in what continues to be a dark world. That contrast sets us apart from other schools. Here the radiance of Christ’s forgiving love pierces through the darkness and sets new hearts ablaze in faith. During an age filled with the stumbling blocks of poor choices, the word of truth speaks to the minds of our students, giving them discernment and Godly wisdom. All along the way God promises to work in them, accomplishing his will and good purpose.

St. Croix has awarded $450,000 of need based tuition assistance for this year. Your gift to the 2011 Back to School Appeal makes it possible, as Erin said in her message, for students from all socio-economic backgrounds to Shine Like Stars here at St. Croix and let their light of faith shine the light of the Savior, Jesus, in the world around them.

Thank you for your gift and God bless!
